Tutorial Setup on lxplus
WARNING: This page is obsolete.
Please look at
https://atlas-software.docs.cern.ch/analysis/analysis_tutorial/basicSetup/
.
These instructions are for setting up for the tutorial on lxplus. You should do this prior to the tutorial. To do these, log in to lxplus.cern.ch.
Unix Shell
We recommend your shell be bash or zsh but not csh or other c-shell flavors. To check which shell you are using, do
ps -p $$
Grid Certificates
Make sure your grid certificates are visible in ~/.globus. For example, you should see the following protections:
ls -l ~/.globus
total 9
6 -rw-r--r-- 1 desilva zp 5711 Oct 23 2007 usercert.pem
1 -rw------- 1 desilva zp 963 Oct 23 2007 userkey.pem
Requirements
(If you have a ~/cmthome directory, you may want to temporarily rename it for the duration of the tutorial.) Create a file ~/cmthome/requirements. This can be downloaded from cvs and configured as follows:
mkdir ~/workshopSetup
cd ~/workshopSetup
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.atlas-canada.ca:/atlas/cvs/cvs/atlasCanada checkout userSupport/TutorialSetup/2008-Americas
mkdir ~/cmthome
cd ~/cmthome
cp ~/workshopSetup/userSupport/TutorialSetup/2008-Americas/requirements.CERN ~/cmthome/requirements
source /afs/cern.ch/sw/contrib/CMT/v1r20p20070720/mgr/setup.sh
cmt config
You should not see any errors or warnings at this stage; if you do, something is wrong. Some possibilities to check (see the requirements file): ATLAS_DIST_AREA and ATLAS_GROUP_AREA actually exists
Next, do the setup (do this in a new session; this will be the starting point each time you want to work):
source ~/cmthome/setup.sh -tag=13.0.40,groupArea
Again, you should not see any errors or warnings here. If you do, check also that $TestArea does not exist (do an ls); if it does, delete or move it and repeat the above command.
Checkout Software
Next, create the work directory as defined in the requirements file:
mkdir -p $TestArea
cd $TestArea
Now check out the packages which are needed for the tutorial:
cmt co -r TopPhysTools-13-00-40-06 PhysicsAnalysis/TopPhys/TopPhysTools
cmt co -r TopPhysDPDMaker-00-00-10 PhysicsAnalysis/TopPhys/TopPhysDPDMaker
cmt co PhysicsAnalysis/DistributedAnalysis/PandaTools # note that this is the head version
Look in the directories
ls PhysicsAnalysis/TopPhys/TopPhysTools
ls PhysicsAnalysis/TopPhys/TopPhysDPDMaker
ls PhysicsAnalysis/DistributedAnalysis/PandaTools
You should NOT see only one directory (such as TopPhysTools-13-00-40-06 or TopPhysDPDMaker-00-00-10) but several - cmt, etc. If you only see one directory, it means your requirements file in ~/cmthome is probably incorrect.
Compile the Packages
Next you will compile the packages; to do this:
cd ${TestArea}/PhysicsAnalysis/TopPhys/TopPhysTools/cmt
source setup.sh
cmt bro make
cd ${TestArea}/PhysicsAnalysis/TopPhys/TopPhysDPDMaker/cmt
source setup.sh
cmt bro make
cd ${TestArea}/PhysicsAnalysis/DistributedAnalysis/PandaTools/cmt
source setup.sh
cmt bro make
You should not see any errors
Check that you are able to submit a job to the grid
Setup the grid tools and then authenticate
source /afs/cern.ch/project/gd/LCG-share/current/etc/profile.d/grid_env.sh
voms-proxy-init -voms=atlas
# Canadian users, please use your /atlas/ca role as follows:
voms-proxy-init -voms=atlas:/atlas/ca
You should see something like the following when you type voms-proxy-info -all:
> voms-proxy-info -all
subject : /C=CA/O=Grid/OU=TRIUMF/CN=Asoka De Silva/CN=proxy
issuer : /C=CA/O=Grid/OU=TRIUMF/CN=Asoka De Silva
identity : /C=CA/O=Grid/OU=TRIUMF/CN=Asoka De Silva
type : proxy
strength : 512 bits
path : /tmp/x509up_u1179
timeleft : 88:38:48
=== VO atlas extension information ===
VO : atlas
subject : /C=CA/O=Grid/OU=TRIUMF/CN=Asoka De Silva

attribute : /atlas/Role=NULL/Capability=NULL
attribute : /atlas/lcg1/Role=NULL/Capability=NULL
timeleft : 88:38:47
Next, try to submit a test job as outlined in the
Computing Workbook
