ATLAS of the Americas Tutorial Setup

ALERT! WARNING: This page is obsolete.

Please look at https://atlas-software.docs.cern.ch/analysis/analysis_tutorial/.

The ATLAS of the Americas Workshop 2008 will be held at SFU in June 2008 and there will be a Distributed Computing Tutorial Session on the final day.

If you plan to attend this session, you will require

Please see the main Tutorial Page for more information.

The tutorial will require you to use your lxplus account and user support will help you with any issues that may arise. You could also do it at your home institution or on a WMware image (atlas-vm) on your laptop. The rest of this document describes these options but please note: there is user support only for lxplus at the tutorial (outside the tutorial, we will try to help you with other issues).

If you decide to use one of these other options, we strongly recommend that you also keep an open terminal session on lxplus and do the same steps; this way, if you encounter issues, you can switch to lxplus without losing time at the tutorial.

Configuring your home institution account (Optional)

Please look at these instructions to configure your account at your home institution.

Note, when you source the setup for installations outside lxplus, you should leave out the releases in the tag; eg, do source ~/cmthome/setup.sh -tag=14.1.0.3,AtlasProduction,groupArea

Using a VMware image (Optional)

Another option is to download a VMWare image atlas-vm and run it on your laptop. Please use atlas-vm version 1.05 for this tutorial. If you already have a different version of the atlas-vm, please see this page for tutorial setup installation instructions. (To see which version you have, login as atlasadmin and type getAtlasVMVersion.sh)

If you have problems accessing the CVS repository at CERN, I recommend you use the ssh access mode: source ~/cmthome/setup.sh -tag=14.1.0.3,AtlasProduction,groupArea,sshcvs

Rather than source the /afs/cern setup scripts for DQ2Client, etc, you can use the local versions. type setupATLAS and follow the instructions to use the appropriate tools. Note that gLite is already available (you can do voms-proxy-init as soon as you login without doing any further setups)

Also, note that PATHENA_GRID_SETUP_SH is already defined as an environment variable in your account. You should not reset this to an /afs/cern file since that will make it take longer to run !

Please also see this page on known problems when using the standalone kit.

I have a DVD containing atlas-vm 1.05 if anyone wants to install it. Please look for me (Asoka De Silva); you'll have to copy the contents to your laptop and return the DVD.

Testing your configuration (Recommended if you are not using lxplus)

This is a script which will check that your configuration is correct. Please run this.
