Running M5 data on lxplus (13.0.35.1)

ALERT! WARNING: This page is obsolete.

  • Initial Setup; do the following once
mkdir -p ~/Tutorial/point1/run
mkdir -p ~/Tutorial/point1/cmthome
cd ~/Tutorial/point1/cmthome

add a requirements file such as:

#############################################################
set   CMTSITE  CERN
set   SITEROOT /afs/cern.ch
macro ATLAS_DIST_AREA ${SITEROOT}/atlas/software/releases/13.0.35

macro ATLAS_GROUP_AREA "/afs/cern.ch/atlas/groups/PAT/Tutorial"

apply_tag simpleTest
apply_tag oneTest

macro ATLAS_TEST_AREA "" \
      "13.0.35.1"  "${HOME}/Tutorial/point1"

use AtlasLogin AtlasLogin-* $(ATLAS_DIST_AREA)
#############################################################

and configure:

source /afs/cern.ch/sw/contrib/CMT/v1r20p20070720/mgr/setup.sh
cmt config

  • For every login, do:
cd ~/Tutorial/point1
source cmthome/setup.sh -tag=AtlasPoint1,13.0.35.1,gcc323,releases

source /afs/cern.ch/project/gd/LCG-share/current/etc/profile.d/grid_env.sh

source /afs/cern.ch/atlas/offline/external/GRID/ddm/endusers/setup.sh.CERN

voms-proxy-init -voms=atlas:/atlas/ca

  • Check out and compile the packages (the Panda package is checked out in case you want to run this on the grid later):
cd ~/Tutorial/point1
cmt co PhysicsAnalysis/DistributedAnalysis/PandaTools
cd ~/Tutorial/point1/PhysicsAnalysis/DistributedAnalysis/PandaTools/cmt
cmt br cmt config
source setup.sh
gmake

  • In ~/Tutorial/point1/run, Fetch the file Walter Lampl created from lxplus at ~wlampl/public/jobOptions/Rec28940.py (the modified version is attached Rec28940.py.txt - remove the .txt extension after downloading.) Edit Rec28940.py by adding the following lines just before including RecExCommissionFlags_jobOptions.py:
# setup DBReplicaSvc to choose closest Oracle replica
PoolSvc=Service("PoolSvc")
PoolSvc.SortReplicas=True
DBReplicaSvc=Service("DBReplicaSvc")
DBReplicaSvc.UseCOOLSQLite=False

and the following lines just after including RecExCommissionFlags_jobOptions.py:

ATLASCosmicFlags.useLocalCOOL = True

and substituting (you may also want to replace the input files in FileNames and path, if necessary, in ATLASCosmicFlags.FullFileName)

theApp.EvtMax = 100

for the number of events to run. Also, remember to rename the output files in the script unless you want to overwrite them.

  • Create a pool file catalog with the conditions data (should remove these before submitting a grid job ?) by doing the following:
ls /afs/cern.ch/atlas/conditions/poolcond/vol3/comcond.000002.lar_conditions.recon.pool.v0000/*.root | awk '{print "pool_insertFileToCatalog "$1""}' > doPool.sh
source  doPool.sh

  • Run interactive or batch with the athena command:
(only need this for submission to grid)
cd ~/Tutorial/point1/PhysicsAnalysis/DistributedAnalysis/PandaTools/cmt
source setup.sh

(the script Rec28940.py should reside in this run directory)
cd  ~/Tutorial/point1/run

athena -s Rec28940.py | tee interactive1.log

Work in progress, under construction To submit to the grid, one should be able to do

# you may not need to do this
export PATHENA_GRID_SETUP_SH=/afs/cern.ch/project/gd/LCG-share/current/etc/profile.d/grid_env.sh

# do we need this step for the grid ? It has the cern afs conditions database paths
mv PoolFileCatalog.xml PoolFileCatalog.xml.save

export PANDA_URL_SSL=https://gridui02.usatlas.bnl.gov:26443/server/panda
pathena --inDS=M5.0028940.Default.L1TT-b00000101.RAW.v010803  --outDS=user.AsokaDeSilva.M5Test.13.0.35.1.TRIUMF.v1 --nFiles=1 --nEventsPerJob=2 --split=1 --site=ANALY_TRIUMF Rec28940.py --prestage
