Install gLite-UI
WARNING: This page is obsolete.
Installation

Instructions here are for a 32-bit Scientific Linux OS; please check the yum repositories before you download 64 bit versions (look for x86_64 versions of rpm packages in the links to the yum repos below).
gLite is the grid middle-ware, which are tools to enable you to run your jobs on the grid. In principle, you can just source the setup script from CERN via afs and submit the jobs on the grid. However, this seems slow.

There are two ways to install this; the one below is with yum access which requires root access and you will have to manage implementing fixes on your own. If you do not have root access, or are using a x86_64 platform or just prefer someone else to do the management, you can install with the
manageTier3SW package.)
You first need to set up the repository as super-user: (These instructions modified from this
LCG Wiki
.) Note that you can fetch the files linked in
this page
with wget. Go to /etc/yum.repos.d and ...
- wget the file gLite-UI.repo
- wget the file jpackage.repo
- wget the file lcg-CA.repo
- make sure /etc/yum.repos.d/dag.repo has enabled=1.
Then do
yum install glite-UI
yum install lcg-CA
(This seem to be needed only in CERN's version of SLC4.6; the default SL4.6 installations are ok.) If you see an error about a missing version of java, you may need to install it from SUN's site. To do this, go and
get the 5.0 update 14 JDK
self-extracting rpm file (eg. jdk-1_5_0_14-linux-i586-rpm.bin). Then do the following:
chmod +x jdk-1_5_0_14-linux-i586-rpm.bin
./jdk-1_5_0_14-linux-i586-rpm.bin
#check that it is installed:
rpm -qa | grep jdk
#or else install it manually:
rpm -iv jdk-1_5_0_14-linux-i586.rpm
and then retry the yum glite-UI installation as above.
The gLite package will be installed in /opt. Create a file /opt/glite/site-info.def such as in this example:
site-info.def
Next do:
cd /opt
/opt/glite/yaim/bin/yaim -c -s glite/site-info.def -n UI
The VOMs will be also installed for ATLAS in /opt/edg/etc/vomses (and maybe also in /opt/glite/etc/vomses).
The setup files will be installed in /etc/profile.d:
grid-env.csh -> /opt/glite/etc/profile.d/grid-env.csh
grid-env.sh -> /opt/glite/etc/profile.d/grid-env.sh
which will be automatically sourced for every user's login.
At this stage, please reboot the machine; I have noticed that things do not work properly otherwise.
To test that this works, make sure that the user has a ~/.globus directory with the key and pass certificates. Then run a hello world job as outlined in the workbook. Note, you need to do voms-proxy-init, not grid-proxy-init:
voms-proxy-init --voms atlas:/atlas/ca
Updating
If nightly yum updates are enabled, gLite will be maintained. You may want to protect the /etc/yum.repos.d packages with the protect flag (you need to install yum-protectbase as described in the
system installation page. My settings are:
dag.repo:protect=0
jpackage.repo:protect=1
jpackage.repo:protect=1
jpackage.repo:protect=1
jpackage.repo:protect=1
sl-errata.repo:protect=1
sl.repo:protect=1
gLite also runs a cron job every ~6 hours to update certificates; the job can be found in /etc/cron.d and the logfile in /var/log.
