Install Scientific Linux 6

Required packages

Information is from (obsolete, Sep 2017; please use Hep_OSLibs instead) Athena SLC6 compatibility page.

You will need system privileges for this. Install Scientific Linux on your computer; you can choose any packages or versions you like but make sure that the following are also installed:

Please note that only 64-bit OS will be supported in ATLASLocalRootBase. (32-bit Athena wil run on 64-bit OS.)

    • OpenAfs Client (avoid this if you are outside Eurpoe as it will slow down setups since they will check afs)

• HEP_OSLibs metarpm

yum install http://linuxsoft.cern.ch/wlcg/sl6/x86_64/wlcg-repo-1.0.0-1.el6.noarch.rpm
yum install HEP_OSlibs_SL6

• install svn yum install subversion

• Install cvmfs

You can also do the following to check for the required ATLAS rpms and install them:

export ATLAS_LOCAL_ROOT_BASE=/cvmfs/atlas.cern.ch/repo/ATLASLocalRootBase 
alias setupATLAS='source ${ATLAS_LOCAL_ROOT_BASE}/user/atlasLocalSetup.sh'

Test status

• (11 Mar 2013): Native installations on SL6 works.
• EMI-UI SL5 version is used for testing on both cvmfs and native SL6 installations.
• tested on SL6.3
• tested with bash (6 Feb 2013). zsh and tcsh limited testing (mainly setup to ensure ALRB scripts work.)
