Install ROOT

Installation

ROOT is available within Athena and that is the version which should be used. Sometimes, you may need a standalone version and this is how I installed it:

  mkdir -p /atlas/ATLASLocalRootBase/i686/root
  cd /atlas/ATLASLocalRootBase/i686/root
  # fetch the version of root you want and untar it; eg:
  wget ftp://root.cern.ch/root/root_v5.18.00.Linux.slc4.gcc3.4.tar.gz
  gtar zxf root_v5.18.00.Linux.slc4.gcc3.4.tar.gz
mv root 5.18.00 (it unpacks as root; just rename it to the version.)
ln -s 5.18.00 current (if this is the version you want to make current).

ATLASLocalRootBase users

If you have installed ATLASLocalRootBase, you can let manageTier3SW maintain the software for you. Otherwise if you want a particular version installed, you can type for example,

$ATLAS_LOCAL_ROOT_BASE/utilities/installSW.sh --name=root --platform=i686 --version=5.18.00 --makeDefault --binTarFile=ftp://root.cern.ch/root/root_v5.18.00.Linux.slc4.gcc3.4.tar.gz
