Dataset Search Examples
WARNING: This page is obsolete.
Some of the ways that ATLAS data on the grid can be located.
How Do I ...
1) Find Higgs to WW datasets?
In the DDM catalog browser, you can do a wildcard search:
"mc%H%WW%"
Or you can search in the Panda Monitor dataset browser. i.e., in the left box, click on the link for "Quick search - Datasets", then enter
"mc%H%WW%"
(for example). Or use dq2-ls from the command line: > dq2-ls mc*H*WW* (I find that the DDM browser is quite a bit quicker than the Panda monitor, but more limited.)
2) Find Higgs to WW datasets here in Canada?
You can search the list of datasets on Canadian sites in your browser.
http://condorg.triumf.ca/CA/datasets_in_CA/find_Canadian_datasets.html
3) Find the file size for a given dataset?
From the command line, you can give a dq2-ls command. Setup DQ2Client, then
>dq2-ls -f "dataset_name"
4) List all AOD's of a given production version?
From the Panda monitor you can do a wildcard search in the dataset browser. i.e., in the left box, click on the link for "Quick search - Datasets", then enter "%AOD.v1300030002%" (for example). This will display all of the AOD datasets made with version 13.3.02. This page will not tell you the size of the datasets, but it will list the number of files in each dataset. You can give a dq2-ls command for a given dataset.
5) Pick a good dataset for testing?
There are different ways to do this. My first choice would be the Panda monitor.
Let's say you want to run over actual physics data. Select a category (maybe M4, for cosmics data), page down to the "name" category, select cosmics, and look over the datasets. For testing, you might want to click on a particular site (something close to you). Select a dataset name with the format you need (ESD maybe?), click on it to see what datasets it contains. For more information on that dataset, you could copy the dataset name into the search page.
