Clean account for Diagnostics

(Linux only)

Note: This is a drastic action and should be done very carefully and only if needed.

Save old files and create new environment

Login to a new terminal session but do not exit this session until you are able to login again. Do

\cd 
\mkdir ~/doNotDelete
\mv * ~/doNotDelete/
\mv .* ~/doNotDelete/
\mv ~/doNotDelete/.globus ~/
\cp /etc/skel/.* ~/
# do not exit !

Test

Login to a new terminal session and repeat any tests to see if the error has gone away

Restore

To restore (you may want to do it a few files at a time until you catch the offending file), simply mv from ~/doNotDelete/* and ~/doNotDelete/.* to ~/. one or more files / directories at a time.
