Stripping atlasvm

ALERT! WARNING: This page is obsolete.

(This is for versions 2.00 and newer).

Here are various things you can do to reconfigure atlasvm for other purposes:

  • edit /etc/rc.local to remove the cvmfs setup if you do not want to use the athena releases on the proxy servers.
  • to remove VMWare tools, login as root and run /usr/bin/vmware-uninstall-tools.pl. (eg. if you want to convert this to KVM)
  • for the initial setup, skip running atlasLocalRootBaseUpdate.sh to avoid installing gLite, Ganga, etc in this step.
  • to disable all window managers and startup by default as run level 3 (eg. if you run atlasvm as a server), edit /etc/inittab and change the line
    #id:5:initdefault:
    id:3:initdefault:
    and reboot.
  • if you are running this as a server, there are some services you can disable. (You are on your own here if you do this - there is no user support.)
