How to install Atlantis

ALERT! WARNING: This page is obsolete.

This is a standalone version and is optional; you need it to view events (unless you use VP1, which is another event display that runs directly under Athena: just setup Athena and type "vp1 myfavourite_AOD_or_ESD_file.pool.root" at the command line...).

Atlantis is also available within Athena; to install you only need to checkout the package and compile. See, for example, this Tutorial page.

Installation

Atlantis is a java-based event display application; to install it, follow these steps.

mkdir -p /atlas/ATLASLocalRootBase/Atlantis/src
cd /atlas/ATLASLocalRootBase/Atlantis/src

Get the latest version; in the example below, the latest version is Atlantis-Java-09-08-23:

curl -O http://www.hep.ucl.ac.uk/atlas/atlantis/files/AtlantisJava-09-08-23.tgz
cd ..
gtar zxf src/AtlantisJava-09-08-23.tgz
ln -s AtlantisJava-09-08-23 current

Note the current pointer which you will be using to move to newer versions. You need java 1.4 or higher; type

java -version

to figure out which version you have.

To run,

java -jar /atlas/ATLASLocalRootBase/Atlantis/current/atlantis.jar
